Chapter 17 - The Showdown at the Harbor

Before Damian could pull the hatch lever, Miller lunged forward, tackling Damian’s arm away from Emma.
BANG!
A gun shot echoed through the study. The bullet shattered the glass bay window. Michael hurled his body forward, snatching Emma out of the crossfire and shielding her with his body as they tumbled across the floor.
Damian scrambled up from the floor, pulled a flashbang grenade from his coat, pulled the pin, and dropped it into the room.
FLASH-CRACK!
A blinding white light and deafening roar filled the study. Michael’s ears rang violently as smoke filled the room. When the smoke cleared, Damian was gone—along with the master drive pulled from the open floor hatch.
"He's heading for the docks!" Miller coughed, dragging himself up against the desk. "His private yacht is moored at Pier 42!"
Michael picked Emma up, carrying her down to Miller’s sedan. "Stay in the car with Miller, Emma. No matter what you hear, stay inside."
"Daddy, don't leave me!" Emma wept.
Michael kissed her cheek, tears mixing with the rain on his face. "I promised you'd be safe forever, sweetheart. I'm finishing this tonight."

Ten minutes later, Michael arrived at Pier 42. The ocean was churning under the gale-force storm winds. Damian’s 120-foot luxury yacht, The Nemesis, was already unmooring from the wooden docks.
Michael slammed the gas pedal of the sedan, driving straight down the pier, smashing through the security gates, and jumping the car onto the lower deck of the moving yacht!
