Chapter 8 - The Siege at Sterling Manor

Evelyn’s return sparked a media circus. Her legal team immediately filed an emergency ex-parte order, claiming Michael was an unstable billionaire who had subjected Emma to extreme danger and gun violence at his estate.
That evening, a powerful thunderstorm rolled over the city. Heavy rain lashed against the windows of Sterling Manor.
Michael sat in his private study, conferring with his legal team and security guards. Emma was safely asleep upstairs under the care of Maria, the loyal housekeeper who had protected Emma during the ordeal.
Suddenly, the gates at the end of the long driveway were smashed open. Three heavy SUVs tore through the rain and screeched to a halt outside the manor’s front entrance.
A man dressed in a tactical suit stepped out, holding a document, accompanied by four armed private security contractors. Evelyn stepped out of the middle vehicle, holding a broad umbrella.
The head contractor pounded on the heavy oak front door. Michael opened it, flanked by his own armed security team.
"Michael Sterling!" the man barked, holding up a paper. "We are executing an emergency protective custody transfer order issued by Judge Raymond. You are ordered to surrender the minor child, Emma Sterling, to her biological mother immediately!"
Michael looked at the paper. It bore an official judicial stamp, but something was wrong—Judge Raymond was known to be on Eleanor’s payroll years ago.

"This court order was signed at 9:00 PM on a rainy night by a corrupt judge without a hearing," Michael said coldly. "You aren't taking my daughter anywhere."
"If you refuse to comply, Mr. Sterling," Evelyn yelled over the thunder, "my men will take her by force! You’re resisting a court mandate!"
