Chapter 14 - THE MIDNIGHT RESCUE IN ALBANY

The St. Jude Private Foster Facility in Albany, New York, looked more like an abandoned industrial warehouse than a home. Rain lashed against its barred windows as Robert and Harrison’s security detail swarmed the perimeter, cutting through the electronic gate locks with heavy-duty tactical shears.

Inside the dimly lit corridors, a nervous agency director was hastily shredding documents into a loud industrial machine when the office door was kicked off its hinges.

Harrison stepped into the room, his weapon holstered but his presence absolute. "Stop right there."

The director dropped his handful of paper strips, staring wide-eyed at the two billionaire tycoons who had just upended the criminal underworld of the Northeast. "You... you have no right! This is a legal transfer! The adoptive parents paid the premium fee!"

"There are no adoptive parents tonight," Robert said coldly, walking past him and yanking open the metal filing cabinets lining the wall. He pulled out folder after folder until he found the one marked Leo.

"Where is the boy?" Robert demanded.

"Room 402. Down the hall," the director stammered.

Robert didn't wait. He sprinted down the sterile hallway, pushing open the heavy metal door of Room 402.

The room was dark, cold, and smelled of antiseptic. A small five-year-old boy sat huddled in the corner of a narrow metal crib, clutching a worn-out blue blanket, staring wide-eyed at the sudden intrusion.

When the boy looked up, Robert felt his breath catch in his throat.

It was like looking at a mirror image of Sophia—the same dark brown hair, the same delicate features, and those striking hazel-green eyes ringed with gold, looking back at him with absolute, heartbreaking fear.

"Leo?" Robert whispered, his voice trembling as he knelt down beside the crib.

May you like

The boy shrank back, clutching his blanket tighter. "Are you... are you going to take me to another room?"

"No, sweetheart," Robert choked out, tears spilling over his eyelashes as he carefully reached into the crib and lifted the little boy into his arms. "I'm your grandfather. And I am taking you home."
