Chapter 8 - THE PENTHOUSE BESIEGED

By 8:00 AM, the Manhattan penthouse had been transformed into an impenetrable fortress. Private security operatives stood outside every door, and medical specialists monitored Sophia as she slept in Marina’s old bedroom.
Robert sat at the heavy mahogany desk in his private study, the DNA comparison report resting between his hands.
The laboratory results had just come in from Mount Sinai.
Probability of Paternal Lineage (Grandfather): 99.99%.
Sophia was a Morgan by blood.
The door to the study opened quietly, and Marcus stepped inside, looking pale. "Mr. Morgan, we have a visitor downstairs. Security tried to turn them away, but they bypassed the lobby checkpoint using federal credentials."
"Who?"
"Harrison Sterling."
Robert’s eyebrows shot up. The billionaire CEO from Detroit—the man who had dismantled his own father’s empire to save a starving family—was standing in a New York penthouse?
"Send him up," Robert ordered.
Two minutes later, the heavy double doors of the study pushed open. Harrison Sterling walked in, looking travel-worn, wearing a dark trench coat over a tailored suit, his stormy gray eyes fixed on Robert with an intensity that matched his own.
"Robert Morgan," Harrison said, stepping into the room. "I'll skip the pleasantries. We have a mutual problem."
Robert didn't stand up. He folded his hands on the desk. "You're a long way from Detroit, Sterling. And my granddaughter is sleeping in the next room."
Harrison stopped. A flicker of surprise crossed his face, quickly replaced by grim realization. "So you found the letter."
"I found the letter, the medical records, and the financial trail leading straight back to Victoria Vance’s offshore accounts," Robert said coldly, standing up and leaning over the desk. "Your stepmother funded the man who abused my granddaughter for four years. Care to explain why?"
"Because Victoria and my late father weren't just running a shipping empire," Harrison said tightly, pulling a thick folder from his coat and tossing it onto the desk. "They were running a systematic asset acquisition ring. They tracked illegitimate heirs across multiple corporate families—including yours—using fabricated custody claims and engineered poverty to force buyouts of disputed estate lands."
Harrison looked toward the bedroom door.
"When my son Benjamin called me from that Detroit tenement, I thought it was an isolated nightmare," Harrison continued. "It wasn't. My father’s archives show that Sophia was targeted because her birth certificate linked the Morgan real estate trust to the Westchester parcels your family owned."
Robert’s fists clenched. "They used a child as a real estate pawn."
"And they're not done," Harrison warned. "Victoria knows you found the documents. She knows Sophia is in this penthouse. And federal marshals just alerted my team—she’s filed an emergency ex-parte petition with a corrupt family court judge in Manhattan, claiming Sophia is an abandoned minor under her legal guardianship."
Before Robert could answer, a loud, collective crash echoed from the main foyer outside the study.

The secure double doors of the penthouse burst open.
