Chapter 7 - THE DISCOVERY IN THE ARCHIVES

Before Robert could process the full weight of the revelation, Marcus’s satellite phone rang sharply in the quiet hallway.

"Mr. Morgan," Marcus answered, his voice tight. "You need to hear this. I had our legal team run an immediate background check on Michael Vance’s financial records from tonight. We found out where he got the money to stay in that tenement."

Robert stood up slowly, his voice dead calm. "Where?"

"He wasn't just extorting us, sir. Three days ago, a corporate wire transfer of two hundred thousand dollars was deposited into Michael Vance’s offshore account from a Swiss bank."

Robert frowned. "A Swiss bank? Who holds the account?"

"An executor acting on behalf of the Vance family trust," Marcus replied grimly. "Managed directly by Victoria Vance."

Robert stopped dead in his tracks.

Victoria Vance.

The exact same name that had haunted the Sterling dynasty. The stepmother of Harrison Sterling—the billionaire who had torn down the Detroit slums just weeks earlier.

The two massive corporate dynasties of New York and Detroit—the Morgans and the Sterlings—were somehow linked through the very network of proxy accounts that had funded Michael Vance's abuse of little Sophia.

"Mr. Morgan," Marcus continued, his voice dropping. "There's more. The demolition crews aren't arriving for the golf resort tomorrow morning. They’re arriving because the land was sold yesterday to a holding company controlled by Sterling Logistics."

The pieces clicked together with terrifying clarity.

Arthur Sterling and Victoria Vance hadn't just tried to bury Sarah Parker’s children in Detroit. They had spent years buying up peripheral real estate properties in New York, quietly manipulating trusts, tracking illegitimate heirs, and using children as leverage in a multi-billion-dollar corporate chess match.

And Sophia had been right in the middle of it.

"Pack up the documents," Robert said, his eyes hardening into flint. He walked out of the guest house, stepping into the cool autumn air as the first rays of dawn began to paint the Manhattan skyline in shades of gray and gold. "We are going back to Fifth Avenue. And then... we are paying a visit to the Sterling estate."
