CHAPTER 7 — The Cub That Came Back

Nearly a year passed.

Life slowly returned to normal for Emma Carter.

She resumed her work at the wildlife rescue center, gave occasional interviews, and tried to leave the extraordinary experience behind.

But one autumn morning, Daniel called again.

His voice sounded urgent.

"You need to come back."

Emma sighed.

"Daniel... what happened this time?"

"It's the cub."

Emma froze.

"What about him?"

"He keeps leaving the pride."

When Emma arrived at the reserve, several rangers were already waiting.

One pointed toward a watering hole.

"There."

The young lion, now nearly full-grown, stood alone beneath a tree.

The moment he caught Emma's scent, he lifted his head.

Then, to everyone's astonishment, he trotted toward her.

Not aggressively.

Not cautiously.

Confidently.

The rangers instinctively stepped in front of Emma.

"Stay back!"

Daniel raised a hand.

"Wait..."

The young lion stopped only a few feet away.

He stared at Emma for several long seconds before gently lowering his head.

It was the same gesture the black-maned male had made on the riverbank months earlier.

Emma slowly extended her hand.

The lion sniffed the air but never touched her.

Instead, he turned around...

Then looked back at her.

Once.

Twice.

As if asking her to follow again.

Daniel laughed nervously.

"I have a feeling this family never says goodbye."

Emma smiled.

"Then let's see where he's taking us."

None of them realized that hidden deep in the nearby forest, another danger had already entered the reserve.

Unlike the poachers...

May you like

These men weren't after lion skins.

They were hunting something far more valuable.
