CHAPTER 8 — The Secret Hidden Beneath the Earth

The young lion led Emma and the rangers deep into an isolated part of the reserve where tourists were never allowed.

The vegetation became thicker.

Ancient baobab trees blocked the sunlight.

The air felt strangely still.

Suddenly, the lion stopped beside a rocky cliff.

He began pawing at the ground.

Again.

And again.

Daniel frowned.

"Why here?"

Emma knelt and brushed away loose soil.

Something metallic reflected beneath the dirt.

One ranger grabbed a shovel from the vehicle.

Within minutes, they uncovered an old rusted steel container buried nearly three feet underground.

Inside...

There were maps.

Satellite phones.

Fake wildlife permits.

Hard drives.

And hundreds of documents.

Daniel's expression changed instantly.

"This isn't a poachers' camp..."

"It's a headquarters."

Hours later, investigators arrived by helicopter.

The evidence shocked everyone.

The buried files connected illegal wildlife traffickers with corrupt businessmen and officials across several countries.

Millions of dollars had flowed through the network for years without anyone discovering it.

Emma stared at the young lion.

"You brought us here..."

Daniel nodded slowly.

"It wasn't an accident."

The lion watched quietly from a nearby hill before disappearing into the tall grass.

By sunset, dozens of arrests had begun across Africa.

News agencies called it the biggest wildlife trafficking breakthrough in decades.

Emma believed the story was finally over.

She couldn't have been more wrong.

Because that very night...

Someone broke into her cabin.

May you like

And left a single handwritten message on the table.

You should have let the cub drown.
