CHAPTER 9 — The Threat That Changed Everything
Emma's hands trembled as she picked up the note.
There was no signature.
Only seven chilling words written in black ink.
Daniel immediately ordered every ranger to search the area.
Nothing.
No footprints.
No fingerprints.
No vehicles.
It was as if the intruder had vanished into the night.
Three days later, Emma received another warning.
This time, an anonymous email contained a recent photograph of her walking alone through town.
Someone had been watching her.
The investigation revealed a terrifying truth.
Several leaders of the wildlife trafficking syndicate had been arrested...
But one man had escaped.
His name had never appeared in the news.
Authorities knew him only by one nickname.
The Ghost.
He controlled trafficking operations across multiple countries and had sworn revenge on anyone responsible for destroying his empire.
Emma was now at the top of his list.
The government offered her permanent protection.
She accepted.
Weeks later, while traveling with a ranger patrol, Emma suddenly noticed something unusual.
The young lion was standing in the middle of the road.
He wasn't moving.
He wasn't frightened.
He simply stared into the trees.
Daniel immediately understood.
"Stop the vehicle."
Seconds later...
A hidden explosive device buried beneath the road was discovered just ahead of them.
The bomb squad later confirmed it would have destroyed the entire convoy.
Silence filled the reserve.
Daniel looked toward the lion, who had already disappeared into the grass.
"He didn't just save a cub that day," he whispered.
"He remembered the woman who saved him."
Far away, hidden inside an abandoned warehouse, a man watched Emma's convoy through a laptop screen.
He slowly smiled.
"Enjoy your miracle while it lasts..."
"Next time..."
May you like
"Neither the lions nor the rangers will be able to save you."
To be continued...
