Chapter 11 - THE DEAD RETURNS TO DOCK “She sat across from her husband after 22 years of being 'dead'... and watched his glass shatter!”

The private dining room at the Grand Halcyon was dimly lit. Arthur sat alone, a glass of thirty-year-old scotch trembling in his hand. He thought he was meeting Miriam Cole to sign his final surrender papers—the legal surrender of all residual pension rights and board titles.

The heavy oak doors clicked shut.

Instead of an aging attorney with spectacles, Eleanor walked in. She was wearing a crimson silk dress, identical to the one she had worn the night she "collapsed" at the foundation banquet twenty-two years ago.

Arthur dropped his glass. The crystal shattered against the parquet floor, amber liquid soaking into the antique rug.

"M-Miriam?" Arthur gasped, his voice choked with terror as he scrambled back, slamming his spine against the high-backed chair. "What is this game? Who dressed you like this?!"

"I didn't dress up as anyone, Arthur," Eleanor said softly, stepping into the pool of chandelier light. She lifted her chin, letting him see the faint, surgical line along her jaw, the unmistakable spark in her cold blue eyes. "I just stopped wearing the wig."

"No... no, Eleanor died! I buried her! I signed the death certificate!" Arthur’s eyes bulged, his breathing ragged. "You’re an impostor! Claire hired an actress to drive me insane!"

"You signed a death certificate issued by a doctor paid off by Vanessa’s handler, Victor Vance," Eleanor replied, pulling out a chair and sitting opposite him with terrifying grace. "You were so eager to inherit the operational funds that you never requested an autopsy. You sealed a casket full of sand and lead weights."

"Why..." Arthur sank onto his knees, tears of pure horror leaking down his wrinkled cheeks. "Why did you come back now?"

"Because for twenty-two years, I watched you turn my daughter into an outcast while you built a lifestyle on stolen ground," Eleanor leaned forward, her shadow stretching across the table like a shroud. "I gave you two decades to prove you were a father, Arthur. You failed every single day."
