CHAPTER 10 — “The Last Secret Was Hidden in Emily’s Blood”

Michael raced to the computer.

The FBI's cyber team connected remotely.

"No password works!"

"The files are encrypted!"

The countdown kept falling.

05:12...

05:11...

Emily searched the room desperately.

There had to be another clue.

Then Evelyn noticed something carved into the wall.

A single sentence.

"Only blood opens the truth."

Emily frowned.

"What does that mean?"

Beside the computer sat an old fingerprint scanner.

Emily placed her hand on it.

Nothing.

Evelyn tried.

Nothing.

Michael slammed the desk.

"It's useless!"

Then Emily noticed something else.

A tiny needle hidden inside the scanner.

Without warning...

It pricked her finger.

A drop of blood landed on the glass.

The machine immediately came to life.

DNA VERIFIED.

WELCOME... SUBJECT ALPHA.

Everyone stared in silence.

The countdown stopped.

The vault doors unlocked.

Thousands of files appeared on the screen.

Bank accounts.

Murder records.

Political bribery.

Kidnapping operations.

Names of judges.

Police chiefs.

Business tycoons.

Victor hadn't controlled one criminal organization.

He had controlled an entire shadow empire.

Then the final video automatically began playing.

Victor looked directly into the camera.

"If you're seeing this..."

"...then you finally know who you are."

He smiled.

"You were never my greatest experiment."

Emily's heart pounded.

Victor continued.

"You are the only person capable of exposing everything I built."

"But remember..."

"If I die..."

"...someone even more powerful takes my place."

The screen suddenly switched to a live surveillance feed.

Emily gasped.

Victor wasn't overseas.

He wasn't hiding.

He was standing...

Right outside the mansion.

Surrounded by dozens of armed men.

He slowly looked up at the security camera...

Smiled...

And raised a detonator.

"I gave you your answers, Emily."

"Now..."

"Let's see if you can save the people you love."

His thumb pressed the button.

The entire mansion shook with a deafening explosion.

May you like

The screen went black.

THE END... OR IS IT?
