CHAPTER 8 — “The Woman Everyone Thought Was Dead Was Leading the Enemy”

The attack lasted less than five minutes.

When the police finally secured the estate...

The gunmen had vanished.

So had Richard Carter.

Only one thing remained.

A black envelope lying in the middle of the living room.

Inside was a single photograph.

Emily stared at it in disbelief.

A woman stood on the deck of a luxury yacht.

She looked exactly like Emily.

The same eyes.

The same smile.

The same birthmark on her shoulder.

Only colder.

Stronger.

More dangerous.

Written on the back were six chilling words:

"Meet your sister... if you dare."

Three days later...

An encrypted message arrived on Emily's phone.

A location.

An abandoned lighthouse overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.

Against everyone's advice, Emily went.

Michael insisted on hiding a tactical team nearby.

Emily climbed the worn stone steps alone.

At the top...

A woman stood facing the sea.

When she turned around...

It was like looking into a mirror.

Emily whispered,

"My God..."

The woman smiled.

"I've waited twenty-eight years to meet you."

Emily took a cautious step forward.

"I'm Emily."

"I know."

The woman answered.

"My name is Evelyn."

For one heartbreaking moment, it seemed the sisters might finally embrace.

Then Evelyn pulled a pistol from her coat.

She pointed it directly at Emily's heart.

"You stole the life that was supposed to be mine."

Emily's eyes filled with tears.

"I didn't even know you existed."

Evelyn's expression never changed.

"Exactly."

"You were raised by loving parents."

"You inherited the fortune."

"You had a name."

"I had nothing."

Emily slowly lowered her hands.

"I don't want the money."

"I only want my sister."

For the first time...

Evelyn's hand trembled.

Then a slow clap echoed through the lighthouse.

Both sisters turned.

A tall man stepped out of the shadows.

Elegant.

Gray-haired.

Smiling.

Richard Carter walked beside him in handcuffs.

But the handcuffs were fake.

Richard removed them himself and laughed.

"You finally brought them together."

Emily's heart sank.

"You planned all of this?"

The stranger smiled.

"No."

"I planned it twenty-eight years ago."

He looked at the two sisters with pride.

"My name is Victor Blackwood."

"I'm the man who ordered your father's murder..."

"...and I'm also your biological father."

The lighthouse fell silent.

Emily and Evelyn stared at each other in horror.

Everything they had believed about their lives...

May you like

Had just collapsed.
