CHAPTER 2 — "The Woman Everyone Thought Was Dying Had Already Begun Her Revenge"

Emily didn't scream.

She didn't cry.

She simply closed her eyes again before Daniel returned.

If he believed she knew nothing...

That would become her greatest weapon.

The next morning, Daniel walked into the room carrying flowers and breakfast.

"My beautiful wife," he smiled.

"You look stronger already."

Emily forced herself to smile.

"I don't remember much after surgery."

Daniel relaxed.

Perfect.

She hadn't heard.

Or so he thought.

Later that afternoon, while Daniel went downstairs to meet the doctor, Emily secretly borrowed a nurse's phone.

Instead of calling her family...

She called one person Daniel had spent years making her distrust.

Her older brother, Michael.

"I need your help," she whispered.

"I'm in danger."

An hour later, Michael arrived with a lawyer and a private investigator.

Emily revealed everything she had overheard.

The investigator frowned.

"We've actually been watching your husband for months."

Emily's heart stopped.

"What do you mean?"

He slid several photographs across the hospital table.

Daniel...

Holding hands with another woman.

Daniel...

Entering a luxury apartment registered under someone else's name.

Daniel...

Meeting with an insurance broker just three days before Emily's surgery.

Then came the final photograph.

Emily stared at it in disbelief.

The woman beside Daniel...

Wasn't just his lover.

She was the surgeon's daughter.

Suddenly every "medical complication"...

Every delay...

Every signature Daniel insisted she make...

Made horrifying sense.

That evening, Daniel walked back into the room wearing the same gentle smile.

"Good news," he said.

"The doctors need one more document signed."

Emily looked at him lovingly.

"Of course, darling."

She picked up the pen.

Daniel smiled in victory.

He believed he had won.

What he didn't know...

Was that the papers he had just handed her...

Had already been replaced.

And with one signature...

May you like

He was about to lose everything he had spent years stealing.

To be continued...
