CHAPTER 4 — “The Mistress Revealed the Secret That Changed Everything”

The police station was packed with reporters by sunrise.
Daniel Carter’s arrest had become the biggest scandal in the city.
The perfect husband.
The respected businessman.
The man who cried beside his wife’s hospital bed.
Now walked into court in handcuffs.
But Emily didn’t feel victorious.
She felt empty.
Because revenge did not erase ten years of memories.
It did not erase the wedding vows.
It did not erase the nights she had believed Daniel’s arms were the safest place in the world.
Then Vanessa agreed to testify.
Everyone expected her to expose Daniel’s greed.
But nobody expected what she revealed.
In court, Vanessa stood before the judge with shaking hands.
“Daniel didn’t choose Emily for love,” she said.
“He married her because he knew who she really was.”
Emily frowned.
“What does that mean?”
Vanessa turned toward her.
“Your father didn’t just leave you a small inheritance.”
The courtroom went silent.
Vanessa continued.
“He left you controlling ownership of Carter Holdings through a hidden trust. Daniel found out before the wedding. He married you to get close to it.”
Emily’s breath caught.
Her entire marriage flashed before her like a lie wearing a wedding ring.
Then Vanessa dropped the final bomb.
“But Daniel couldn’t access the trust unless Emily died... or was declared mentally incapable.”
Emily covered her mouth.
The surgery.
The papers.
The medication.
It had all been part of one plan.
Daniel suddenly stood up.
“She’s lying!”
But Vanessa smiled bitterly.
“No, Daniel. I kept copies.”
A lawyer placed a sealed envelope before the judge.
Inside were emails.
Bank transfers.
Messages.
And one chilling document titled:
“Post-Surgery Transfer Strategy.”
Emily stared at Daniel across the courtroom.
For the first time, he looked small.
Not powerful.
Not charming.
Not untouchable.
Just exposed.
The judge denied bail.
Vanessa was taken into custody.
The surgeon lost his license before sunset.
And Emily returned home to the mansion Daniel had tried to steal.
But that night, while she sat alone in her bedroom, Michael handed her one final envelope.
“This was found in Daniel’s private safe,” he said.
Emily opened it.
Inside was an old photograph of her father...
Standing beside Daniel’s father.
On the back, five words were written in black ink:
“Emily was never the target.”
Emily’s blood turned cold.
May you like
Because if Daniel had only been a pawn...
Then the real enemy was still free.
