Chapter 6 - The Confession in the Rain

A sudden crack of thunder shook the conservatory, followed by a torrent of heavy rain pounding against the glass ceiling.

"Charles... knew?" Evelyn’s voice trembled, her grip on the revolver slipping slightly.

"He knew you faked the death of your second child," Daniel revealed, his voice echoing over the sound of the storm. "He knew you were funneling money out of his estate to cover up Dr. Harrison's blackmail. He didn't die of a sudden heart attack, Evelyn. He died right after he confronted you about Emily!"

"He was going to ruin us!" Evelyn shrieked, tears finally bursting from her eyes as her sanity unravelled completely. "He was going to give half of the family fortune to a sick, pathetic child raised in an orphanage! He was going to strip my authority and hand the empire to a board of trustees! I had to protect our legacy!"

"By poisoning his medication?" Daniel demanded, his voice thundering above the storm.

Evelyn’s mouth snapped shut. She realized too late what she had just admitted to.

From behind a row of overgrown marble pillars, two figures emerged into the light. Emily stood there, holding a recording device connected directly to a live federal channel, accompanied by the Chief of Police and a squad of armed officers.

"Evelyn Carter," Chief Davis announced, raising his weapon. "Drop the gun! You are under arrest for attempted murder, conspiracy, and the homicide of Charles Carter!"

Evelyn looked around frantically, realizing she had walked directly into a masterfully orchestrated trap. The red roses, the location, the confrontation—it was all designed to drive her to a full confession.
