Chapter 7 - The Trial of the CenturyThe courtroom was packed to the gills. Word had leaked to the local press that billionaire heir Arthur Vance’s daughter was divorcing and prosecuting a corporate executive for high-level embezzlement, bigamy, and abandonment. Flashbulbs blinded the steps outside as I walked in, flanked by security and carrying a thick file of evidence.

Daniel sat at the defense table in an orange jumpsuit, looking hollowed out, hollow-eyed, and utterly defeated. His high-priced defense attorney—paid for by liquidating what little hidden cash Daniel had left—looked stressed and exhausted.

When the judge called the court to order, the prosecutor stood up and laid out the devastating case piece by piece.

First came the financial audits proving the embezzlement of Vance Global funds to pay for Jessica’s luxury cruise wardrobe, fine dining, and jewelry.

Then came the bombshell testimony from Chloe, who took the stand with tear-stained cheeks and laid bare Daniel’s secret double life, complete with marriage certificates and bank statements showing years of financial abuse and neglect.

Finally, it was my turn.

I took the stand, my posture upright and unflinching. I spoke calmly about his abandonment of me during high-risk triplet pregnancy bed rest, his cold, dismissive text messages, and his public humiliation of me in the airport arrivals terminal with his mistress.

When Daniel’s lawyer stood up to cross-examine me, his voice was defensive and desperate.

"Mrs. Vance-Miller," the lawyer sneered, "isn't it true that you used your father's immense corporate influence to entrap Mr. Miller, orchestrating this entire sting operation out of spite?"

I didn't blink. I leaned into the microphone, letting my voice ring clear across the silent courtroom.

"Counselor," I said smoothly, "my husband didn't need to be entrapped. He walked into the trap willingly, wearing a stolen watch, holding a mistress's hand, and shouting his betrayal to the world. Greed and arrogance were his architects. I merely provided the foundation."

A murmur of approval rippled through the courtroom gallery. The judge banged his gavel sharply, restoring order, but the look he gave Daniel was one of sheer disgust.
