Chapter 16 - The Prison InformantThe morning after the broadcast, our foundation office received dozens of letters of support, partnership requests, and personal notes from survivors. But one envelope stood out from the rest.

It was postmarked directly from the federal correctional facility where Daniel was serving his sentence.

Frowning, I used a letter opener to slice open the flap. Inside wasn't a pathetic plea from Daniel this time. It was a typewritten note from a federal prison chaplain.

Dear Mrs. Vance-Miller,

I am writing to you on behalf of an inmate who wishes to remain anonymous for his own safety, but felt compelled to share a piece of information regarding your ex-husband, Daniel Miller.

During his time here, Daniel has continued his pattern of deception. He recently attempted to run a contraband smuggling ring inside the facility using outside contacts. Furthermore, he has been boasting to other inmates about hidden assets stashed in offshore cryptocurrency accounts that were never discovered during the original federal audit.

We believe these assets may belong to restitution funds that were rightfully owed to you and his other dependents. I felt it my moral duty to bring this to your attention.

My eyes narrowed as I finished reading the letter. Even locked behind iron bars, the man simply refused to stop digging his own grave.

I immediately picked up my desk phone and dialed direct extension for Chloe's legal office down the hall.

"Chloe," I said the second she picked up. "Lock your door. We need to audit Daniel's digital footprint one last time. It looks like he left a digital trail behind bars."
