Chapter 12 - The Syndicate's Shadow"Property?" Ramon stepped forward, closing the distance between them with terrifying speed. Before Kaelen could react, Ramon slammed him against the stone pillar of the veranda, the impact rattling the masonry. "The ledger belongs to the earth. And if your masters want it, they can come down to the vault and dig it up themselves."

Kaelen didn't struggle. Instead, a twisted, bloody smile spread across his scarred lips. He coughed, a wet, dark splatter hitting the polished stone.

"You think the vault was the only copy, Ortega?" Kaelen whispered, his breath hot against Ramon's ear. "Digital data replicates. The moment the Deacon's biometrics synced with the main console, an automated packet was bounced through three satellite relays to Zurich. The high table already has the names. Every politician, every judge, every cartel boss. And right now... they're voting on your execution."

Victor stepped forward, his face hardening. "Boss, give the word. I'll drop him in the garden."

Before Ramon could answer, a sharp, piercing whine cut through the air—the distinct, supersonic signature of a sniper round tearing through the atmosphere.

CRACK.

The bullet didn't hit Ramon. It struck Kaelen squarely in the chest, blowing clean through his sternum and shattering the stone pillar behind him. Kaelen's eyes widened in utter shock as life drained from his body, his knees buckling as he collapsed into a pool of dark blood on the pristine courtyard tiles.

"Sniper in the eastern tree line!" Matteo roared over the comms, his voice frantic. "Sector 7! Multiple targets approaching from the cliffside path!"
