Chapter 6 - Shadows in the Sub-Level"How?" Victor demanded, drawing his weapon as he sprinted toward the main security console. "Sector 4 requires a dual-key biometric override and a rolling twenty-digit frequency code!"

"They didn't hack the system," Ramon said, his voice terrifyingly calm as he pulled his Sig Sauer and checked the chamber. "They used the tracker we found on our car. They rode our tail right down the access tunnel."
"What do we do, Boss?" Diego asked, scooping Maya back into his arms as the little girl let out a muffled squeal of terror, burying her face in his shoulder.
Ramon looked at Elena, then down at the encrypted micro-drive on the counter. He slipped both the drive and the silver medallion into his jacket pocket.
"We don't run," Ramon said, a cold, predatory smirk touching the corner of his mouth. "They wanted to draw me out. Let's give them an audience."
He turned to his men. "Victor, take the eastern service corridor and cut off their retreat. Diego, secure the reinforced vault in the sub-basement with Elena and the child. Matteo, you're with me. We hold the central hub."
"Ramon, wait!" Elena grabbed his sleeve as he turned to leave. "You don't understand who leads them. It's not a random hit squad. It's The Deacon."
Ramon stopped dead in his tracks. The name hung in the air like poison gas.
"The Deacon died twenty years ago," Ramon said without turning back. "My father threw his body into the harbor after the massacre at the docks."
"Bodies float, Ramon," Elena whispered, her eyes wide with terror. "And some men refuse to stay in the dark."
Without another word, Ramon wrenched his arm free and strode out of the medical suite into the crimson-lit corridors of the underground compound.
The air grew instantly colder as they advanced toward the central hub. The steady hum of the facility's generators was interrupted by a low, rhythmic metallic scraping sound—like a heavy blade dragging along concrete.
Screeech... screeech...
Matteo raised his submachine gun, his knuckles white against the black polymer grip. "Boss, coming around the corner."
Ramon raised his hand, signaling a hold. He planted his boots, squared his shoulders, and waited.
From the shadow of the intersecting hallway, a figure emerged into the red glow.
He wore a tailored trench coat stained with old blood and dirt. His face was half-concealed by a wide-brimmed hat, but the lower half revealed a jagged, keloidal burn scar stretching from his jaw down to his collarbone. In his right hand, he dragged a heavy, custom-forged machete along the concrete floor, sending a shower of orange sparks flying into the dark.

The man stopped ten feet from Ramon, tipped his hat up, and revealed a twisted, maniacal grin.
"Hello, little Ortega," the man rasped, his voice sounding like dry leaves crushed under a boot. "Did you really think your father finished the job?"
