Chapter 14 - The Second VaultDown in the sub-level three stories beneath the estate, the heavy concrete walls shuddered under the violent concussive force of an exterior explosive charge.

BOOM.
Dust rained down from the ceiling as Diego shoved Elena and Maya into the reinforced steel safe room, sealing the pneumatic hydraulic door with a heavy mechanical spin of the wheel.
"Stay here," Diego ordered, checking the charge on his shotgun. "Do not open this door for anyone unless you hear my voice three times."
"Diego, the primary server rack is connected to this room," Elena warned, her face pale, her hands trembling as she held Maya close. "If they breach the sub-level console, they can override the encryption loop from the inside!"

Before Diego could reply, the lights in the subterranean corridor flickered and died, replaced by the pulsing crimson glow of the emergency grid.
Heavy footsteps echoed down the concrete stairs—dozens of boots marching in synchronized rhythm. Through the reinforced glass of the safe room, Diego saw shadows moving in the corridor. Then, a heavy plasma torch hissed to life, its blinding blue-white flame instantly eating through the steel hinges of the outer security door.
