Chapter 18 - The Fall of the Accomplice

Before Harrison Vance could stammer out a defense, the side doors of the chambers opened, and two federal marshals stepped into the room, flanked by local precinct detectives.
"Harrison Vance," the lead detective announced, pulling a pair of cold steel handcuffs from his belt. "You are under arrest for conspiracy, extortion, subornation of perjury, and executing fraudulent legal filings on behalf of a convicted felon."
Vance’s face turned the color of ash. He looked frantically toward the corrupt judge, but Judge Miller was already frantically pushing his paperwork away, whispering, "Get him out of my sight. I had nothing to do with this!"
"You're making a massive mistake!" Vance protested loudly as the marshals grabbed his arms, snapping the cuffs tightly around his wrists. "This is a civil matter! You can't touch me!"
"Tell it to the federal grand jury," Leo retorted with a sharp, victorious grin as Vance was dragged out of the chambers, his expensive briefcase hitting the floor with a hollow thud.
Silence descended upon the room once more. Judge Miller slumped back into his leather chair, wiping sweat from his forehead, realizing his career was utterly finished.

Adam turned to Clara, wrapping his arms around her and pulling her into a fierce, protective embrace. "It's over," he whispered against her hair. "Vance is done. My mother has no more proxies. We actually won."
Clara rested her head against his chest, finally letting out a long, peaceful breath. The specter of Margaret Hamilton’s toxic legacy had finally been laid to rest. There were no more shadows hiding in the corners, no more secret threats waiting in the dark.
