Chapter 5 - The Grandmothers Secret

The courtroom erupted into a chaotic storm of shouts, camera clicks, and gasps. Judge Vance hammered his gavel furiously, shouting for order, but the journalistic frenzy was unstoppable. Reporters were already typing furiously on their phones, broadcasting the live sensation to millions across the globe.
Margaret Hamilton stood up slowly from her seat in the gallery. Her face was twisted into a mask of pure, venomous fury. "The boy is delirious!" she shrieked, her voice cutting through the noise like a jagged knife. "He has been brainwashed by this thieving maid! She must have manipulated him into stealing it from my safe and hiding it to frame me! It's a conspiracy!"
"Sit down, Mrs. Hamilton," the judge warned, his face stern as he looked at the sapphire resting on the table. He turned his piercing gaze toward Adam. "Mr. Hamilton, your son just accused his own grandmother of lying under oath. How did the boy come into possession of the family heirloom?"
Adam looked down at the sapphire, then up at his mother, and finally at Clara, who was holding Idan protectively. In that single, agonizing moment, the scales fell from Adam's eyes. He saw the decades of manipulation, the cold calculation, and the casual cruelty that had driven his wife away years ago and was now destroying an innocent woman.
"Mother," Adam said, his voice terrifyingly quiet, devoid of any warmth. "Open the safe in your study."
Margaret’s breath hitched. For the first time in her life, the matriarch looked genuinely frightened. "Adam, have you lost your mind? You're listening to a child and a criminal—"
"I said, open the safe," Adam repeated, standing up to his full height, towering over her. He turned to the judge. "Your Honor, I move for an immediate recess and a court-ordered forensic inspection of the safe in my mother's private study. Let us see who truly had access, and who had a motive."
"Denied! You cannot search my private property—" Margaret shrieked, lunging forward, but the bailiffs quickly moved to block her path.
Judge Vance leaned over his bench, studying the dramatic tableau. "The court accepts the motion for a recess. Court is adjourned for two hours. Bailiff, secure the Hamilton estate immediately. Nobody enters or leaves without police supervision."
As the judge stepped down, Harrison Vance hurriedly packed his briefcase, giving Margaret a cold, disgusted look before walking out without saying a word. The shark had abandoned a sinking ship.
Clara stood up, holding Idan's hand. Adam approached them, his eyes swimming with unshed tears. He dropped to his knees before Clara, looking up at her not as an employer, but as a broken man seeking redemption.

"Clara," Adam choked out, his voice cracking. "I am so, so sorry. I failed you. Please... can you ever forgive me?"
Clara looked down at the man who had cast her out into the cold without a second thought. She didn't smile, but her eyes softened with a profound, aching pity. "Stand up, Mr. Hamilton," she whispered softly. "The truth is coming out. That is all that matters now."
