Chapter 19 - The Final Audit

Alistair stared at his brother as if he were looking at a ghost returned from the grave.

"You're ruined, Alistair," Arthur said, stopping a few feet away from him and dropping a heavy, encrypted drive onto the walnut desk. "Every shadow account, every illicit shell company, every bribe paid to international regulators—it’s all on that drive. Interpol has already synchronized with my terminal. Swiss federal police are securing the lobby as we speak."

Alistair let out a hollow, desperate laugh, his hands shaking as he reached for a small panic button hidden beneath the desk lip. "You think Interpol can touch me? The Swiss banking commission protects its own!"

Before his finger could press the button, Clara stepped forward with terrifying speed, slamming a heavy brass paperweight down onto his wrist with a sharp crack.

Alistair screamed, clutching his broken hand as he collapsed into his leather chair.

"That's for my daughter," Clara whispered, her voice trembling with five years of pent-up rage and grief. "And that's for turning my husband into a ghost."

A second later, the double doors of the penthouse blew open as Swiss federal police officers, led by my tactical team, poured into the room, slapping heavy steel cuffs onto Alistair’s wrists and dragging him away toward the elevators without a word of protest.

The penthouse grew quiet once more.

Arthur Vance turned around, looking first at his wife, then at me. Tears welled in his eyes as he walked over to Clara, pulling her into a fierce, suffocating embrace that had been delayed by half a decade of terror and separation.

I stood watching them, hands in my pockets, feeling a strange, profound sense of closure settle over my chest. The war was over. The shadows had been swept away.
