Chapter 29 - The Unbreakable FoundationThat evening, I stayed late in my office on the forty-eighth floor, looking out the massive glass windows at the glittering city skyline below.

The downtown lights shimmered like cold neon jewels, but they didn't look intimidating anymore. They looked like a city that worked—a city where families could sleep safely, where food stayed fresh, and where institutional corruption could no longer hide behind forged signatures and executive override codes.

My phone chimed on the desk. A text message from Beatrice:

“Dinner is ready at the estate. Don't spend all night down in the machine room, Owen. Even the best engineers need to rest their tools.”

I smiled, locked my computer screen, and slipped my favorite wrench into my coat pocket.

As I walked out of the executive office and stepped into the private elevator, I thought back to the man I had been two years ago—broke, desperate, standing in front of a diner counter with eighteen dollars in my pocket, wondering if the world had entirely forgotten what honesty looked like.

The world hadn't forgotten. It had just been waiting for someone stubborn enough to remind it.
