Chapter 10 - Reign of the Protector

Two years later, the underworld had undergone a permanent transformation. The name Moretti was no longer whispered in terror alone; it was spoken with a strange, reverent awe. The ruthless mob boss who had once ruled through absolute fear had become an impenetrable shield, not just for his criminal empire, but for the broken, the forgotten, and the helpless who had nowhere else to turn.

Corven Tower stood taller than ever against the Manhattan skyline, its lobby warm, secure, and brightly lit against the winter snow.

Inside the grand penthouse, a seven-year-old Nora and a five-year-old Ella proudly presented a stack of burnt, syrup-drenched pancakes to a seated Dominic Moretti, who solemnly tasted the culinary disaster with the seriousness of a supreme court justice.

Marco stood near the doorway, holding a secure tablet, watching the scene with a quiet grin.

"Verdict?" Nora asked anxiously.

Dominic chewed slowly, wiped his mouth with a linen napkin, and looked them dead in the eye. "Delicious. Better than any Michelin-starred restaurant in Paris."

The girls cheered, high-fiving each other in triumph.

Dominic leaned back in his chair, looking out through the bulletproof glass at the glittering expanse of New York City. He had spent decades fighting for control of a city built on corruption, betrayal, and greed. But as he watched the morning sun break through the clouds, illuminating the golden skyline, he knew he had finally won the only war that mattered.
