Chapter 5 - The Orphaned Trust

The boardroom meeting upstairs lasted precisely nine minutes. When Dominic returned to the table, his face carved from stone, the three rival capos took one look at his eyes and immediately signed the shipping concessions without uttering a single objection. The fear of God had returned to the Moretti empire.
Yet, when Dominic walked back down to his private penthouse suite, the terrifying mob boss vanished.
In his place sat a man looking down at two little girls curled up on an oversized leather sofa, fast asleep under heavy cashmere blankets. Ella was still clutching an empty paper cup in her mittened hand, while Nora had wrapped her threadbare blue coat tightly around her shoulders as if protecting herself even in dreams.
Marco stepped quietly into the room, holding a thick manila folder. "Nico’s network has been entirely dismantled, Boss. All offshore accounts frozen, assets seized, and his co-conspirators neutralized. And... I checked the municipal records. Clara Vance’s body was recovered from an unmarked county morgue. We’re arranging a proper funeral by dawn."

Dominic stared at the sleeping children. For twenty years, his life had been defined by vengeance, blood, and territory. He had built an empire by destroying his enemies. But standing there in the quiet penthouse, he realized that true power wasn't about the enemies you killed—it was about the innocent lives you chose to protect when no one else was watching.
He walked over, gently pulling the threadbare blanket higher over Nora’s shoulders, whispering into the quiet night air, "You’ll never be hungry again."
