Chapter 18 - The Underworld’s Unbroken King

Two years later, the landscape of the American underworld had undergone a permanent, irreversible shift. The Corven Tower stood as an untouchable monolith of power, but the name Moretti was no longer whispered exclusively in fear. It was spoken with a strange, reverent awe—a symbol of ultimate protection for the broken and an inescapable doom for the corrupt.

Federal agencies had long since stopped trying to build cases against Dominic; his legal operations were pristine, his philanthropic foundations poured millions into urban child welfare programs, and his shipping empire was a model of legal corporate transparency.

Inside the grand penthouse, a nine-year-old Nora and a seven-year-old Ella were preparing for the annual winter gala—a private family gathering attended only by Marco, Isabella (who frequently visited from the upstate estate), and the trusted inner circle.

Ella wore a stunning red velvet dress, proudly showing off her fully grown tomato plants blooming in the indoor conservatory, while Nora wore a delicate blue dress that mirrored the color of the threadbare coat she had worn the day she first met the mafia boss in the lobby.

Marco walked into the grand salon carrying a small, beautifully wrapped velvet box and handed it directly to Dominic.

"Courier just dropped this off from the federal courthouse, Boss," Marco said with a subtle grin. "Nico Falcone and Evelyn Cross exhausted their final appeals today. Both received consecutive life sentences without parole."

Dominic took the box, looking down at it with calm indifference. He didn't celebrate the fall of his enemies; they were merely historical debris swept from his path long ago.

"File it with the rest of the cold cases," Dominic instructed quietly.
