Chapter 16 - The Clinic Confrontation

The private medical clinic in Westchester was an oasis of sterile white marble, soft lighting, and expensive discretion. Patients sat quietly in velvet armchairs, sipping herbal tea while waiting for consultations.

The double doors parted smoothly as Dominic Moretti walked in, flanked by Marco and two armed enforcers. The sophisticated illusion of the clinic shattered instantly. The receptionist dropped her pen, staring wide-eyed at the looming, terrifying silhouette of the man Chicago’s underworld called the Don.

Dominic didn't draw a weapon. He didn't need to. His presence alone was enough to make the air freeze in the room.

"Evelyn Cross," Dominic stated, his voice slicing through the terrified silence of the lobby. "Room 304."

Before the receptionist could hit the panic button, Marco stepped around the desk, gently uncoupling the wires from the console. "Don't bother, ma'am. We know the way."

Dominic walked down the quiet corridor, his heavy footsteps echoing against the linoleum. He reached Room 304, turned the brass knob, and pushed the door open without knocking.

A middle-aged woman with dyed red hair sat on the examination table, clutching a clipboard to her chest. Her face turned chalk-white as she locked eyes with the man she had only ever seen in encrypted corporate dossiers and late-night news broadcasts.

"Mr... Mr. Moretti," Evelyn gasped, her breath catching in her throat. "I—I’m a patient here—you can’t—"

Dominic closed the door behind him, locking it with a sharp, echoing click. He walked slowly toward the examination table, resting his palms on the sterile metal surface, leaning in until his face was inches from hers.

"You helped Nico Falcone erase Clara Vance from my building," Dominic whispered, his voice like the grinding of tectonic plates. "You helped cover up the execution of a mother, leaving two little girls to starve in my lobby for thirty-eight days."

Evelyn trembled violently, dropping the clipboard as tears spilled down her cheeks. "Nico threatened me! He said if I didn't alter the digital records, my family would—"

"Save your breath for the federal prosecutor," Dominic interrupted coldly, standing straight up. "Marco, pack her bags. She’s going to share a cell block with Nico. Let’s see how much protection her corporate compliance degree gives her in maximum security."
