Chapter 15 - Shadows of the Past

Three months passed in absolute, unblemished peace. The Corven Tower operated like clockwork, the shipping routes flourished, and the penthouse became a home filled with the sound of running footsteps, laughter, and the occasional spilled glass of juice.
Yet, ghosts have a habit of resurfacing when least expected.
Marco intercepted an anomalous wire transfer routed through a shell corporation in the Cayman Islands—a dormant account originally tied to Nico Falcone before his imprisonment. The funds were minuscule, just a few thousand dollars, but the originating IP address wasn't from a prison terminal or an offshore tax haven.
It traced directly to an upscale private clinic in upstate New York.
Marco brought the printout to Dominic’s study while the girls were at their private academy.
"Nico didn't act alone when he scrubbed Clara Vance's employee files," Marco reported, dropping the papers on the desk. "He had a compliance officer helping him from inside the human resources department—a woman named Evelyn Cross. She took a medical leave of absence right after Nico was arrested, and she’s been hiding under an alias ever since."
Dominic’s dark eyes narrowed as he stared at the financial routing numbers. "She thinks she can hide behind medical paperwork while walking free with the blood of an innocent mother on her hands?"

"She’s scheduled for a surgical consultation at that clinic this afternoon," Marco said. "Shall I dispatch a cleanup crew?"
"No," Dominic stood up, adjusting his cuffs. "I’ll handle this one personally. Some debts require a personal touch."
