Chapter 14 - The Breach

The corridors of the Ríos estate were dead quiet, save for the rhythmic, heavy thud of tactical boots moving with lethal precision. Alejandro swept down the east wing, his Glock drawn, his eyes scanning the pitch-black hallways. There were no alarms tripping because the local sensors had been bypassed from the inside using an elite military-grade satellite jammer.

A laser sight flickered green against the white wainscoting just an inch from Alejandro’s neck. He dropped into a tactical slide, spinning and firing twice into the darkness. A heavy body hit the marble floor with a dull thud.
"Clever," a voice hissed from the shadows near the grand staircase.
Step by step, a tall man in an unmarked black tactical uniform emerged, his face half-obscured by a night-vision rig. It was Commander Morales’s second-in-command, a ruthless mercenary known only as El Alacrán (The Scorpion).
"General Navarro sends his regards, Alejandro," Scorpion sneered, leveling his submachine gun. "You thought you could buy your way out of the underworld with a clean checkbook. But blood debts are paid in blood."

Alejandro lunged forward, using a heavy oak display case to shield himself as a hail of submachine gun fire chewed the wood into splinters. He returned fire, clipping Scorpion’s shoulder, but the mercenary managed to throw a tactical flash-bang grenade down the corridor.
The blinding white light and deafening blast sent Alejandro crashing hard against the wall, his vision swimming in a haze of white noise and ringing ears.
