Chapter 5 - The Trap SpringsThe heavy wooden door of the linen closet rattled violently as tiny, frantic fists battered against it from the outside.

"Valeria!" a small, terrified voice cried out—the first real word Mateo had spoken in two years.

Alejandro threw the closet door open. Mateo stood there in his oversized pajamas, his face streaked with tears, pointing a trembling finger down the dim hallway toward the north wing. The double doors, which Alejandro had personally locked with a heavy steel padlock just an hour earlier, were now wide open, swinging slowly on their hinges.

A trail of fresh, dark blood smeared across the pristine white carpet.

"She's gone," Mateo sobbed, throwing himself against Valeria’s legs. "The bad men... they took Mama again."

Alejandro froze, his blood turning to ice. He dropped to his knees, grabbing the heavy steel padlock hanging from the door handle. It hadn't been picked. It had been cleanly sheared through with a hydraulic cutter—a tool belonging exclusively to professional extraction teams.

"They're still in the house," Alejandro snarled, standing up with a terrifying, lethal fluidity. He pulled a suppressed 9mm pistol from his shoulder holster, his eyes turning completely dead. "Socorro! Lock down the perimeter! Activate Code Black!"

Within seconds, the sprawling mansion transformed into a fortress. Red emergency lights flashed silently along the cornices. Heavy steel shutters slammed down over every window on the ground floor. In the courtyard, the sound of armed guards shouting commands and racking assault rifles shattered the quiet San Pedro night.

Valeria scooped Mateo into her arms, pressing his face tightly into her shoulder to block out the flashing red lights and the rising panic. "Look at me, Mateo. Look at my eyes. I've got you. Nothing is going to hurt you."

Alejandro stepped toward the main staircase, signaling two of his most trusted bodyguards, Marco and Hector. "Sweep the north wing. Check the security feeds. Find out who breached the gate codes. If anyone is still inside this house, I want them brought to me breathing or I want their bodies in the incinerator."

"Boss," Marco said into his encrypted radio, his voice tight with sudden tension. "We have a problem with the cameras in the west sector. The feed didn't just glitch... someone hacked the mainframe from inside the mansion."

Alejandro spun around, his jaw clenching so hard a muscle twitched in his cheek. An inside job. One of his own captains, bodyguards, or trusted inner circle had sold them out to the Sinaloa cartel, opening the gates for the extraction team to reclaim Elena Ríos as leverage.

And standing right in the center of the storm, holding the cartel boss’s shattered son, was a twenty-two-year-old cleaning maid from Santa Catarina who now knew far too much to ever be allowed to leave.
