Chapter 8 - The Betrayal WithinThe secondary blast wave threw Alejandro and Elena hard against the metal railing of the bridge. Across the rushing, swollen river below, a second unmarked helicopter lifted off from the treeline, its spotlights sweeping across the wreckage. Inside the cockpit, a familiar figure sat in the co-pilot’s seat, watching the carnage with a cold, triumphant grin.

It wasn't a rival cartel boss. It was Viktor.
Alejandro’s mind raced as the pieces clicked together with horrifying clarity. Viktor wasn't just a loyal security chief; he was the master architect, the leak who had sold the family out from the very beginning, engineering the original ambush two years ago to slowly dismantle the Ríos empire from the inside out.
"Viktor!" Alejandro roared into the rainy wind, holding Elena tightly against his bleeding shoulder.
Viktor leaned out of the helicopter door, holding a secure encrypted detonator in his hand. "Thanks for building such a secure empire, Alejandro!" Viktor shouted over the roar of the turbine blades. "By morning, the federal authorities will have the coordinates of your offshore accounts, and the Sinaloa cartel will control every port from here to Veracruz. You lost!"

The helicopter banked hard and vanished into the stormy gray clouds, leaving Alejandro stranded on a burning bridge with a wounded wife, a dead security team, and an empire that was moments away from total collapse.
Back at the mansion, miles away, the underground panic room’s emergency power generator suddenly sputtered and died, plunging Valeria and Mateo into absolute darkness.
