My phone chimed with an encrypted secure ping. It was Marcus Vance.
"General Hart, all secondary targets have been secured. Senator Miller is in federal custody, and the remaining shell corporations have been fully liquidated," Vance reported crisp and clear.
"Good," I replied, standing by the large windows overlooking the training fields where young soldiers were drilling with precision. "Ensure the liquidation funds are transferred directly to the North Carolina Coalition Against Domestic Violence immediately."
"Done, Ma'am. By the way, Emily called. She’s finishing up her first official week as director of the Charlotte Survivors' Advocacy Center. She asked if you’re joining her for dinner tonight."

The war was over. The corrupt had fallen, the innocent were protected, and the uniform I wore shone brighter than ever, untarnished by the dirt of those who tried to buy justice.
