Chapter 9 - THE FINAL STRIKEWith the intelligence provided by Arthur Sterling, the final phase of the operation moved with terrifying speed and precision.

Within forty-eight hours, military cybersecurity teams operating in tandem with federal agents intercepted the corrupt former police captain before he could access Margaret Prescott’s hidden safety deposit box. The five hundred thousand dollars in untraced bearer bonds were seized, and every single co-conspirator involved in the planned smear campaign was rounded up and slapped with federal obstruction charges.

Margaret Prescott’s last desperate chess move had failed before she even had a chance to play it.

Monday morning arrived crisp, clear, and radiant over Fort Liberty.

The grand assembly hall was packed to capacity. Rows of soldiers in dress uniform, high-ranking Pentagon officials, federal investigators, and distinguished guests sat in absolute silence as the brass band played a stirring rendition of the national anthem.

Seated in the front row, wearing a stunning emerald dress and smiling with a bright, healed face, was Emily. The bruises were gone, replaced by the unmistakable glow of a survivor who had reclaimed her life and her power.

General Thomas Vance stepped up to the podium, his chest gleaming with medals.

"Will Colonel Victoria Hart please step forward to the podium?" General Vance commanded, his voice echoing off the vaulted ceilings of the hall.

I stood from my seat, squaring my shoulders, and walked with measured, disciplined strides down the center aisle. Every eye in the room was locked on me. Not just as a commanding officer, but as a symbol of unyielding maternal strength and absolute justice.

I came to a sharp halt before the podium, saluted General Vance crisply, and stood at attention.

General Vance returned the salute, then reached down to pick up a small velvet box containing the shining silver star of a Brigadier General. As he carefully pinned the star onto the lapel of my uniform jacket, he leaned in close and whispered softly, "You broke their entire empire with a single phone call, Victoria. The United States Army is damn proud of you."

"Thank you, Sir," I replied steadily.

"And now," General Vance announced to the assembly, turning toward the microphone with a proud grin, "I invite our new Brigadier General Hart to say a few words."

The applause that erupted shook the rafters of the auditorium. Soldiers, officers, and guests rose to their feet in a thunderous standing ovation that lasted for several minutes.

I stepped up to the microphone, looking out over the sea of faces, letting my eyes linger for a long moment on my daughter, Emily, who was clapping with tears streaming down her face.

"When we wear this uniform," I began, my voice carrying clear, resonant, and strong across the hall, "we swear an oath to defend our nation against all enemies, foreign and domestic. But protecting our nation also means protecting those who cannot fight back—whether on foreign battlefields or inside our own homes."

I paused, letting the weight of the words settle over the room.

"Money, power, and corruption can build walls of intimidation. But tyranny and abuse will always crumble when met with absolute courage, unbreakable resolve, and the unyielding pursuit of truth. Never underestimate what a mother—and a soldier—will do to protect her family."

The auditorium erupted into another deafening wave of applause and cheers.

Across the state in a cold federal holding cell, the Prescott family's reign of terror was officially over. And for the Hart family, the sun was shining brighter than ever before.
