Chapter 1 - THE DISINTEGRATION OF AN EMPIRE

The iron gates of the estate clicked shut behind Marco and Valerie with a heavy, final thud that seemed to echo through the very foundations of the courtyard. The applause from the guests had died down, replaced by a tense, electric hum of whispers and murmurs. Richard, my corporate attorney, made his way through the crowd, stepping over the scattered rose petals from the floral arrangements with a look of grim satisfaction.
"Andrea," Richard said, his voice low and professional as he handed me a leather-bound folder. "That was quite a spectacle, but it has officially handed us all the leverage we need. Their public extortion attempt, combined with the corporate theft Valerie committed last month, gives us an airtight criminal case."
"Thank you, Richard," I replied, keeping my voice steady despite the adrenaline still surging through my veins. "I want every single asset frozen before the sun sets. Marco thinks he can walk out of my life and take half of my company? He hasn’t even realized what the hidden camera footage contains yet."
Unbeknownst to Marco, the security system I installed in our home and corporate office wasn't just recording audio and video. It was linked to an encrypted cloud server that automatically backed up every file to three separate off-site locations. Minutes after the guards dragged Marco and Valerie away, I pulled out my tablet and reviewed the high-definition footage from two days prior.
The video on the screen was crystal clear. It showed Marco leaning against my mahogany desk in the home office, whispering conspiratorially to Valerie while she fondled a diamond pendant from my latest collection.
"Just play along with the script," Marco’s voice echoed clearly from the tablet's speakers. "Once the guests see her humiliated in front of high society, Andrea will fold like a cheap tent to avoid a public scandal. She cares too much about her reputation. The judge will grant us emergency custody based on Valerie's fake birth certificate claims, and the pre-nup will crumble under the weight of a fabricated moral clause. We’ll control the whole estate within a week."
Valerie had giggled, pocketing the diamond pendant. "And what about the jewelry inventory we already fenced?"
"We keep the cash from the black-market sale to fund our flight out of the country if things go sideways," Marco answered. "Andrea won't even know what hit her."

My blood ran cold, not out of fear, but out of a sharp, calculating anger. Marco wasn't just trying to humiliate me; he was executing a premeditated financial heist designed to strip me of everything I had spent a decade building from scratch.
"Richard," I said, looking up from the screen, my eyes locked on his. "Modify the charges. Add grand larceny, conspiracy to commit fraud, and international flight risk. Let's see how fast they smile when the local police track them down before they even reach the city limits."
