Chapter 9 - THE WHISPERS OF REVENGE BEHIND BARS

Deep within the high-security block of the federal penitentiary, the heavy steel door of Cell 408 clanged shut with a deafening, metallic echo. Marco Vance paced the narrow, concrete-walled enclosure like a caged animal, his orange jumpsuit dragging against the rough floor. His fingernails were bitten down to the quick, and his eyes darted nervously toward the tiny barred window overlooking the razor-wire perimeter.

Across the cramped room, Jonathan Vance sat on the edge of the steel bunk, his face partially obscured by the dim shadows cast by the flickering fluorescent hallway light. Despite his age and the disgrace of a fifteen-year sentence, the patriarch’s eyes still burned with a cold, unforgiving malice.

"Stop pacing, Marco," Jonathan rasped, his voice cutting through the silence like broken glass. "You’re making me sick. Pacing won't bring back the three million dollars the government seized from the Cayman accounts."

Marco spun around, his voice cracking with rising hysteria. "What else am I supposed to do, Uncle Jonathan?! We lost everything! Andrea has the estate, the company, the bank accounts, and absolute custody of Leo! We are rotting in a concrete box while she’s living like a queen in our home!"

"She only won because we rushed the play," Jonathan muttered, standing up and stepping into the light, his posture rigid. "We underestimated her corporate network and those damn hidden cameras. But a wolf doesn't stop hunting just because it gets caught in a trap once. It simply waits for the hunter to let down her guard."

"What are you talking about?" Marco stopped, staring at him in bewilderment. "We have no money, no outside contacts, and our lawyers abandoned us the moment the guilty verdicts were read!"

Jonathan pulled a small, crumpled piece of paper from the hem of his mattress lining—a contraband note smuggled in by a corrupt corrections officer two days prior. He unfolded it slowly, a chilling, crooked smile spreading across his weathered face.

"Valerie may be locked away in the women's facility across town, but she managed to contact an old associate before her phone privileges were revoked," Jonathan whispered, leaning in close so the guard walking past the cell door wouldn't hear. "A man named Viktor. He runs an international logistics syndicate, and he owes me a very large favor from a bad business deal a decade ago."

Marco’s breath caught in his throat. "Viktor? The arms and data smuggling syndicate? Uncle, dealing with people like that is suicide! They don't just extort people—they destroy lives permanently!"

"Good," Jonathan sneered, his eyes flashing with dark satisfaction. "If we can't have Andrea’s empire, and we can't have the boy, then Viktor’s associates will make sure there is nothing left for Andrea to govern either. We’re going to execute a hostile digital liquidation of her entire corporate reserve—and frame her for money laundering on an international scale."
