Chapter 8 - A NEW DAWN

That evening, the sun dipped below the horizon, painting the sky in brilliant shades of violet, amber, and gold across the gardens of our estate. The heavy iron gates stood open, welcoming back a sense of peace, security, and unshakeable joy.

There were no cameras, no fake guests, and no deceitful plotters lurking in the shadows. Just the gentle sound of laughter echoing across the lawn.

Leo was running across the grass, chasing a golden retriever puppy we had adopted to celebrate our new beginning. His little face was glowing with pure happiness, his laughter ringing out into the warm evening air.

I stepped out onto the veranda, holding a porcelain cup of chamomile tea, watching him play. The wind caught the hem of my dress, and for the first time in five years, I felt completely light—unburdened by toxic relationships, unthreatened by corporate greed, and entirely secure in the life I had built with my own hands.

Leo suddenly stopped running, turned around, and sprinted across the lawn toward the veranda. He leaped up the steps, his little arms wrapping tightly around my waist as he buried his face in my lap.

"Mommy," Leo looked up at me with his big, bright eyes, beaming from ear to ear. "Can we have chocolate cake for dinner tonight? Just because we're happy?"

I smiled, dropping to one knee and gently brushing a stray lock of hair from his forehead. I kissed the top of his head, feeling the warmth of his small body against mine.

"Only if you promise to finish your vegetables first, my brave little man," I whispered, smiling down at him.

May you like

Leo giggled, nodding enthusiastically before running back toward the puppy.

I stood back up, taking a deep breath of the fragrant evening breeze, and looked out over the sprawling estate. The past was behind us, buried under the weight of truth, justice, and uncompromising strength. We had survived the storm, and our future belonged to us alone.
