Chapter 6 - THE SHOWDOWN AT PIER 42

At 2:00 AM, the cold, salty wind whipped off the harbor as three unmarked police cruisers rolled silently onto the gravel lot of Pier 42. I sat in the front passenger seat of Detective Miller’s car, watching the dim amber lights flicker above the rusted corrugated metal of the warehouse doors.
"Andrea, stay in the vehicle," Detective Miller instructed, resting his hand on his holster. "This could get volatile. Jonathan Vance is cornered, and desperate men make dangerous choices."
"I’m not staying behind, Detective," I replied, opening my door before he could stop me. "That man tried to steal my son and destroy everything my family built. I am going to watch him fall."
We moved in a tactical formation—four armed officers and myself trailing closely behind. The side metal door of the warehouse was slightly ajar, leaking a weak yellow glow from a single overhead bulb inside.
Inside, the warehouse was a cavernous labyrinth of stacked shipping containers and old machinery. As we crept down the central aisle, harsh voices echoed off the corrugated walls.
"What do you mean the police are already tracking the IP address?" Jonathan Vance’s voice snapped with absolute panic. "I paid you fifty thousand dollars to secure that server!"
"The firewall was a trap, old man!" shouted the man in the motorcycle jacket, slamming his fist against a wooden crate. "Andrea Vance isn't just some rich designer—she’s got corporate security systems that rival a defense contractor! We're finished!"
"Nobody is finished," Detective Miller's voice boomed through the warehouse, echoing off the high rafters as he stepped out from behind a towering stack of steel containers with his service weapon drawn, followed instantly by three armed officers. "Hands where we can see them! Down on the ground, now!"
Jonathan spun around, his face draining of all color. His eyes darted wildly toward the exit, but the side doors were already blocked by uniform officers.
"This is a mistake!" Jonathan shrieked, raising his trembling hands into the air as he backed away against a stack of crates. "I am a respected member of the financial community! You can't just—"
"You can explain your respectability to a federal judge, Mr. Vance," Detective Miller interrupted, stepping forward and clamping heavy steel cuffs around Jonathan’s wrists. "You’re under arrest for corporate conspiracy, extortion, and subornation of perjury."
As they shoved Jonathan past me, his eyes locked onto mine. In the dim light of the warehouse, his expression wasn't one of remorse; it was a venomous, snarling glare of pure hatred.
"You think you've won, Andrea?" Jonathan spat as the officers dragged him toward the exit. "Even behind bars, my legal team will tear your life apart. You can't protect that boy forever!"
"Watch me," I whispered quietly, stepping out of the shadows.

As the sirens wailed outside, echoing across the dark harbor waters, I pulled out my phone and dialed Richard.
"It's over, Richard," I said, a profound sense of peace washing over me. "Jonathan is in custody. File the final asset forfeiture motion immediately. Let's strip them of every last dime."
