Chapter 7 - THE FINAL JUDGMENT

Three months later, the courtroom was bathed in the warm, golden afternoon sunlight streaming through tall stained-glass windows. The media circus outside had quieted down, replaced by the quiet, solemn dignity of true justice being served.
I sat at the plaintiff’s table alongside Richard, wearing a crisp white dress and a tailored navy blazer. Across the aisle, Marco, Valerie, and Jonathan Vance sat side-by-side in matching gray prison jumpsuits, their hair trimmed short, their faces hollowed out by months of detention and failed legal appeals.
Judge Thomas sat at the high mahogany bench, surrounded by towering stacks of legal briefs, forensic accounting reports, and signed confessions.
"The court has reviewed all testimonies, digital evidence, forensic audits, and verified medical records," Judge Thomas announced, his voice ringing clear and authoritative through the silent courtroom. "The defendants—Marco Vance, Valerie Sterling, and Jonathan Vance—have been found guilty on all counts of grand larceny, corporate extortion, conspiracy, and attempted fraud."
He paused, looking down sternly at the defense table.
"Marco Vance is hereby sentenced to twelve years in federal prison with no possibility of parole for the first eight years. Valerie Sterling is sentenced to ten years. And Jonathan Vance, as the primary financier and mastermind of this criminal enterprise, is sentenced to fifteen years in maximum-security federal custody, alongside full asset forfeiture."
A collective sigh of relief swept through the gallery where my parents and close friends sat watching. Valerie buried her face in her hands and began to weep uncontrollably, while Marco stared blankly at the polished wooden floor, utterly broken. Jonathan sat rigidly, his jaw clenched in defiant silence, realizing too late that his wealth and power could not buy him immunity from the truth.
"Furthermore," Judge Thomas continued, raising his gavel, "all claims regarding the parental status of the minor child, Leo Vance, are permanently dismissed with prejudice. Biological maternity and sole legal custody are reaffirmed in full to Andrea Vance, with all paternal rights permanently terminated due to abandonment, conspiracy, and criminal endangerment."

Bang.
The gavel struck the sounding block, signaling the definitive end of the nightmare.
