Chapter 8 - The Aftermath in the SuburbsFar away from the glittering towers of San Francisco and Zurich, in a modest, sun-faded apartment complex on the outskirts of San Jose, Khloe Carter stared blankly at a glowing computer screen.

Her LinkedIn profile showed zero endorsements, and every job application she submitted was met with automated rejection emails within minutes. Her friends had blocked her number, and her landlord was threatening eviction for back rent.

She had wanted to humiliate Victoria Whitmore in front of six hundred people. Instead, she had permanently branded herself as toxic goods in the corporate world.

She looked at her reflection in the dark monitor, realizing too late that temporary applause was worth nothing when the foundation beneath your feet turned to dust.
