Chapter 14 - The Final Verdict on the PastBack in Chicago, the legal chapters of my past finally drew to a permanent close.

Federal bankruptcy courts officially liquidated all remaining assets associated with Apex Horizon LLC and Daniel Bennett’s personal holdings. Sophia Vance, who had spent over a year hiding out in a different state, was finally apprehended by federal marshals and faced her own day in court for wire fraud and medical kickback distribution.

I received a certified notification from the federal prosecutor’s office detailing the final restitution payout deposited directly into my corporate accounts.

I didn't celebrate. I didn't pop champagne. I simply signed the digital receipt, closed my laptop, and went about my day.

Victory isn't about rubbing salt in an old wound. True victory is when the person who tried to destroy you becomes completely irrelevant to your happiness.

That evening, I stood on the balcony of my penthouse apartment overlooking the Chicago skyline. The city lights twinkled like a million diamond stars.

My phone buzzed on the glass table beside me.

It was a text from Liam: “Flight to Chicago booked. Landing tomorrow morning. First class, window seat, waiting for you.”

I smiled, picked up my phone, and replied: “I’ll be at the gate.”
