This time, I wasn't hiding on a second-floor balcony, trembling with doubt or waiting for a lying husband to call.
I wore a tailored crimson coat, oversized designer sunglasses, and carried a brand-new leather carry-on bag packed with my own passport, my own credit cards, and my own tickets.
When the gate agent’s voice rang out—“Now boarding First Class for Flight 402 to Paris”—I smiled, handing my ticket to the attendant.
As I walked down the jetway and settled into my spacious window seat, a flight attendant approached with a crystal flute of champagne.
"Welcome aboard, Ms. Bennett," she smiled warmly. "Enjoy your flight."
