Chapter 7 - The Settlement and the New EmpireThree months later, the dust settled over Chicago General Hospital like nuclear fallout.

Daniel’s medical license was permanently revoked by the State Medical Board. Federal prosecutors offered him a plea deal—three years in a federal penitentiary in exchange for cooperating with the ongoing investigation into pharmaceutical kickbacks.

Sophia Vance fled the state, abandoning her condo, her luxury car, and her corporate title as federal investigators seized every asset tied to Apex Horizon LLC.

As for Daniel’s family? They returned to their suburban homes to find themselves drowning in legal debt, having co-signed loans for Daniel’s various secret investments under the assumption that his medical career was an infinite money glitch.

And me?

I sat across the mahogany conference room table from Daniel’s high-priced divorce attorney, signing the final settlement papers.

Because of the ironclad prenuptial agreement I had insisted upon twelve years ago—combined with the absolute proof of financial fraud and asset dissipation—the settlement wasn't a fifty-fifty split.

It was a ninety-ten split in my favor.

I walked away with our primary home completely paid off, full ownership of my independent data consultancy firm, and a multi-million-dollar restitution payout seized from Daniel’s hidden offshore accounts.

The attorney, an older man with tired eyes, slid the final document across the table.

"Are you satisfied with these terms, Mrs. Bennett?" he asked quietly.

I picked up the heavy Montblanc pen—the same brand of pen Daniel used to sign his fraudulent prescriptions—and signed my name with crisp, elegant strokes.

"I’m more than satisfied," I replied, closing the folder with a soft snap. "I’m free."
