Chapter 15 - The Trojan HorseZurich, Switzerland.

Clara stood on the private balcony of a high-rise penthouse overlooking Lake Zurich, a glass of champagne in her hand. She wore a stunning emerald-green silk dress that caught the evening city lights, her expression one of absolute, serene victory.
On the speakerphone beside her, Adrian’s voice crackled with stunned realization. "A Trojan horse? Clara, what are you talking about?"
"Julian thinks he outsmarted me," Clara said softly, watching the lights of the city shimmer on the water. "He thinks by buying my thirty-five percent stake, he has secured control of Whitmore Enterprises. But he didn't read the fine print in the acquisition rider, Adrian."
"What rider?" Adrian asked, his voice urgent.
"The toxic asset clause," Clara replied with a faint smile. "Hidden deep within the shell companies Vanessa and Marcus created years ago was a massive, unrecorded federal liability—billions in illegal arms-smuggling and money-laundering debts tied directly to Meridian Global’s secret ledgers."
On the other end of the line, Adrian went dead silent. Then, a slow, dark realization dawned on him. "When Julian acquired your shares... he legally absorbed the parent holding company."
"Which means," Clara finished smoothly, "the moment the acquisition was finalized today, the U.S. Department of Justice and the Swiss Federal Banking Commission automatically seized all of Meridian Global’s assets as proceeds of international crime."

A heavy silence hung over the phone line for a long moment before Adrian let out a dry, disbelieving laugh. A laugh filled with equal parts awe and terror.
"You didn't sell out to him," Adrian whispered, the pieces finally falling into place. "You baited him into stealing a poisoned apple."
