Chapter 3 - The Black Box of Betrayal"Don't you dare touch her!" Adrian roared, his voice shaking the crystal chandelier above. His protective instincts, honed by years of ruthless dominance in the business world, instantly shifted toward his daughter.

Vanessa froze, her hands hovering in the air, a mask of desperate innocence instantly replacing her panic. "Adrian... darling, please. The child is unstable. That box could have anything in it. It’s a trap set by this woman to tear our family apart!"

Sophie ignored Vanessa completely. She walked straight up to her father, her small hands holding out the heavy black box.

"Keep it, Daddy," Sophie whispered, her eyes shining with unshed tears. "I saved it. Every single night after she disappeared, I waited in this room. I knew she was coming back. And I knew she did it." Sophie pointed a tiny finger directly at Vanessa.

Adrian’s hands shook as he took the box from his daughter. It was an old-fashioned lockbox, secured with a digital keypad.

Before Adrian could even ask for the code, Clara stepped up and punched a six-digit sequence into the pad: 03-12-18.

Click.

The lid popped open.

Inside lay a collection of items that made the air leave Adrian’s lungs. There was a gold Cartier bracelet—the exact one Clara had been wearing the night of her 'accidental' death, stained with dried dark blood. Beneath it sat a high-end micro-recorder, blinking a faint red light.

Adrian’s trembling hand reached for the recorder. He pressed play.

Instantly, the crystal-clear audio of Vanessa’s voice filled the silent nursery, chilling everyone to the bone.

"Don't fight it, Clara. Adrian will believe it was a tragic accident. He’s already tired of your postpartum depression. Once your car goes over that cliff, the CEO’s chair is mine, and so is your husband."

A second voice—Clara’s voice—gasped in horror on the tape: "Vanessa! How could you? You’re my best friend—!"

Then came the sound of a violent struggle, a sickening thud, and a chilling, triumphant laugh.

The audio stopped.
