Chapter 10 - The Final Twist

Later that evening, after the children were tucked safely into bed and the estate had settled into the quiet rhythms of the night, I walked down to the private vault in the lowest level of the underground bunker to inspect the final archive box containing Dante’s seized personal effects.
Most of it was garbage—encrypted hard drives, fake passports, bearer bonds, and useless corporate shells.
At the very bottom of the metal trunk, nestled beneath a stack of old Italian newspapers from 2018, lay a sealed manila envelope labeled in bold, handwritten red ink: FOR ADRIEN’S EYES ONLY.
Frowning, I picked up the envelope. The wax seal bore the personal crest of my late father, who had supposedly died in a tragic private plane crash twenty years ago—the very tragedy that had forced me to take over the Moretti empire at a young age.
My heart skipped a beat.
I cracked the heavy wax seal with my thumb, pulling out a single sheet of heavy parchment paper covered in my father's familiar, elegant handwriting.
Adrien,
If you are reading this, it means you have survived the internal purge, dismantled Dante’s syndicate, and secured your bloodline. You always were the sharper son.
What you never knew—what Dante spent twenty years trying to uncover—was that your father’s plane crash wasn't an accident. It was an orchestrated exit. The syndicate had grown too rotten from the inside, and the only way to save our family name was to let the world believe I was dead while I pulled the strings from the shadows.
Dante wasn't acting alone when he targeted your children. He was merely trying to flush out the last remaining loyalist of our true legacy.
And look who found the key.
Take care of little Sophie, Adrien. She has your mother’s eyes, and my blood.
I dropped the letter onto the steel table. The single sheet of parchment fluttered against the cold metal, the ink glistening under the harsh emergency lights.
Outside the bunker door, a soft, familiar knock echoed against the reinforced steel.

The heavy vault door slowly swung open on its own.
