Chapter 16 - The Chairman's Identity

Back in the armored Mercedes, the heater hummed softly as we sped away from the docks under the cover of night. Sophie had finally fallen asleep in Elena’s arms in the backseat, exhausted by the sheer terror of the evening.

I sat in the front passenger seat, turning the dead man's burner phone over in my hand. The decrypted chat logs revealed something far more dangerous than a simple rogue syndicate cell.

The Chairman wasn't a faceless committee in Zurich.

It was a single individual. Someone who had operated within my father's inner circle for thirty years. Someone who knew every security code, every financial vault, and every family secret the Moretti dynasty possessed.

Julian Vance’s brother, Marcus, had been a pawn. Dante Morelle had been a front.

The real mastermind pulling the strings from the shadows was none other than Arthur Sterling, my father’s former chief legal counsel and current executor of the Moretti family trust.

"Bruno," I said, breaking the heavy silence inside the vehicle. "Change of plans. We aren't going back to the estate."

Bruno looked over at me from the driver's seat, raising an eyebrow. "Where are we heading?"

"Arthur Sterling’s private mansion on the cliffs of Malibu," I replied coldly, loading a fresh magazine into my Beretta. "It's time to settle family business."

Arthur had spent decades hiding behind expensive suits and legal loopholes, believing he was untouchable. He had engineered the fake plane crash for my father, manipulated Dante into attacking my children, and tried to kidnap my half-sister to blackmail me out of the true syndicate ledger.

He had made one fatal miscalculation.

He thought I was the same man who had inherited a broken empire twenty years ago. He didn't realize that every betrayal only made the blade sharper.

As our convoy turned off the coastal highway onto the winding private drive leading up to Sterling’s cliffside estate, the massive iron security gates loomed ahead, guarded by four private mercenaries carrying tactical rifles.

"Ram the gates," I ordered quietly.

Bruno didn't hesitate. He slammed his foot down on the accelerator, the heavy armored Mercedes surging forward like a charging bull, smashing through the reinforced iron gates in a shower of sparks and shattered steel.

The war for the Moretti empire was reaching its final, bloody conclusion.
