Chapter 1 - The Weight of a VowThe obsidian Maybach sliced through the rain-slicked asphalt of the city’s industrial underbelly, its headlights cutting twin white paths through the drizzle. In the back seat, Enzo Falcone sat in total, suffocating silence. Mia was curled against his side, her small frame shivering despite the cashmere overcoat he had wrapped around her like a blanket. She had finally cried herself to sleep, her tear-stained face pressed softly against his lapel.

Thirty years. For thirty years, Enzo had kept his heart locked behind steel doors of his own design. He had built an empire on blood, leverage, and absolute emotional detachment. Sentiment was a vulnerability; love was an open grave. Yet, as he looked down at the child breathing softly on his coat, he felt the heavy, terrifying sensation of a man stepping off a cliff. He wasn't just angry. He was burning.
"Marco," Enzo said, his voice a low, gravelly hum that barely disturbed the silence of the cabin. "Are we close?"
"Two minutes out, Boss," Marco replied from the front passenger seat, his eyes locked on the glowing GPS map. "The flower shop is on 4th and Elm. Local police haven't arrived yet—the district is a dead zone. But our advance scouts are already securing the perimeter."
"Good." Enzo gently brushed a stray lock of hair from Mia's forehead. His thumb grazed a smudge of dried blood on her cheek. The metallic scent of it filled the car, a sharp, constant reminder of what was waiting for them. "Find out who owns the Serpents' local franchise. I want a name, an address, and a list of everyone who clocked in tonight before we reach the shop."
Marco swallowed hard. He had served Enzo through gang wars, federal wiretaps, and hostile corporate takeovers, but he had never heard this precise cadence in his boss's voice. It wasn't the cold, calculating fury of a businessman eliminating a rival. It was the absolute, methodical calm of an executioner preparing an altar.
"Already working on it, Boss," Marco murmured, his fingers flying across his encrypted phone. "The Serpents have been expanding too fast, financed by someone with deep pockets. They thought because those blocks were poor, no one was watching."
"They were right," Enzo said quietly, his gaze shifting back to the dark window. "No one was watching. Until tonight."

The car rolled to a silent stop fifty yards from Petals & Grace. The storefront windows were shattered, glittering like broken glass under the flickering amber glow of a streetlamp. Inside, the warm, fragrant sanctuary Mia had described was gone, replaced by a scene of violent devastation. Overturned wrought-iron displays, crushed ceramic pots, and a carpet of shredded roses soaked in dark, spreading crimson.
Enzo opened the door, stepping out into the cold rain. He didn't wait for Marco to hold the umbrella. He walked straight toward the broken glass, his long wool coat trailing behind him, a dark silhouette of vengeance stepping into the night.
