Chapter 12 - A Whisper in the Dark

Enzo felt the subtle shift in the city’s atmosphere before his men even brought him the intel. The crisp, clean air of the south side began to feel heavy, charged with static and impending violence. A sleek, matte-black SUV with cloned plates and dark tinted glass began lingering half a block away from Petals & Grace, parked monotonously day after day.

Enzo immediately ordered Marco to double the perimeter patrols, rotating armed guards in plainclothes across every shift. Yet, as he sat in the back of his idling Maybach watching the shop through binoculars, a chilling, nauseating realization settled deep into his gut. His constant presence—meant to serve as an impenetrable iron shield—had inadvertently painted a massive target squarely on Elena and Mia's backs. By trying to protect them with his own shadow, he had exposed them to the brightest light of his enemies' scrutiny.
