Chapter 5 - The High-Society TrapThe grand ballroom of the Zenith Club gleamed with crystal chandeliers, champagne fountains, and the whispered gossip of the city’s elite. It was the epicenter of power—a place where politicians, corporate titans, and wealthy heirs rubbed shoulders, trading favors and carving up the city behind polite smiles and expensive suits.

Victor Sterling stood near the mahogany bar, swirling a glass of twenty-year-old scotch. Tall, silver-haired, and impeccably tailored, he wore the easy smile of a man who owned the board. His south-side real estate acquisition project was moving precisely on schedule. The stubborn shop owners were breaking under the pressure, and soon, the entire district would be bulldozed for luxury high-rises.

Then, the heavy oak double doors of the ballroom swung open.

The ambient chatter didn't just quiet down; it died completely. The room froze.

Enzo Falcone never attended high-society galas. He operated in the dark, behind closed doors, a myth whispered about in boardrooms but rarely seen in the light. Yet here he was, walking through the center of the ballroom as if he owned the floor beneath his feet. Behind him walked Marco and two heavily armed guards, their dark suits contrasting sharply with the glittering tuxedos of the guests.

Sterling’s smile faltered. His hand tightened around his glass until his knuckles turned white.

Enzo walked straight toward the bar, his eyes locked onto Sterling with unblinking intensity. The crowd parted instinctively, terrified guests pressing themselves against the walls to clear a wide, terrified path for the mafia kingpin.

"Victor," Enzo said smoothly, stopping two feet away from the corporate raider. His voice carried across the silent room like a death knell.

Sterling forced a tight, brittle smile, trying to mask his rising panic. "Mr. Falcone. What an... unexpected pleasure. I didn't realize you frequented the Zenith Club."

"I don't," Enzo replied, taking a slow sip of a glass of water handed to him by Marco. "I prefer environments where people are honest about what they are. Animals in the shadows are one thing, Victor. But rats in bespoke suits are infinitely more offensive."

Sterling’s jaw tightened. "I have no idea what you're insinuating. If you have business concerns, my office is open during regular hours—"

"Your office is currently being disassembled," Enzo interrupted softly, leaning in close so that only Sterling could hear. "Just like your little street gang on the south side. The Red Serpents send their regards, by the way. Or they would, if any of them were still capable of speech."

The color drained entirely from Sterling’s face. The glass in his hand slipped, shattering against the marble floor, splashing amber liquid across his polished Italian leather shoes.

"You... you destroyed my operation?" Sterling whispered, his voice trembling despite his best efforts to maintain control. "Those blocks are zoned for development! You're interfering with legitimate business!"

"Legitimate?" Enzo let out a low, cold chuckle that sent a shiver down the spine of every person within earshot. "You sent thugs to beat a defenseless mother in front of her seven-year-old child over a few overdue rent payments. You terrorized a family. And in doing so, Victor, you made a critical error in your arithmetic."

Enzo stepped closer, towering over the corporate raider, his eyes burning with a dark, terrifying intensity.

"You touched something that belongs to me."
