Chapter 13 - The Interrogation Room ShowdownWhile Arthur filled me in on the decades-old corporate war, across town at the precinct, Detective Miller was slamming a file down onto the stainless steel interrogation table.

Savannah sat handcuffed to the chair, her designer sweater slightly rumpled, but her eyes burning with cold defiance. She refused to look like a frightened pregnant woman anymore; she looked like a CEO staring down a hostile takeover.
"You're wasting your time, Detective," Savannah said smoothly, crossing her legs. "I committed no violent crime. Bernice attacked me. I defended myself. As for the corporate dossiers on Christopher? That's not illegal. Researching your spouse's background isn't a felony."
"Extortion, wire fraud, conspiracy to commit identity theft, and exploiting a vulnerable minor—which, legally, includes manipulating an heir under fraudulent pretenses—are felonies, Ms. Mason," Miller countered, leaning over the table. "And we have your encrypted hard drive from your laptop. We found the wire transfers from your uncle’s rival firm funding your apartment lease three years ago."
Savannah’s jaw tightened for a fraction of a second—the only tell that she had been caught.

"My baby has rights," Savannah hissed, her voice dropping an octave as she weaponized her pregnancy. "If you keep me here under harsh lights without medical clearance, your department is facing a massive civil rights lawsuit before sunrise."
"Your baby will be taken into protective state custody the second it's born, Savannah," Miller said flatly, sliding a confession form toward her. "Unless you sign this statement detailing how your family planned to strip Christopher of his corporate voting rights. Cooperate now, and maybe the prosecutor will show some leniency on your sentence."
